Is it possible for Laypersons or Ministers to apply the wrong Biblical Scripture for a situation, experience or feeling we are confronted with? When we seek or use the wrong Scripture to answer our problem, we make matters worse.
Have You or Anyone you know ever taken the wrong Medication or Prescription for an Illness? Guess that’s a no brainer, huh?
Pastor Greg uses perhaps the most important Sermon topic to make the point, to not use the wrong scripture for the incorrect situation. How will we know when we do make this mistake? Read on, or tune into the powerful message he delivers from Scripture.
Only twice in the Bible did people ask what Medicine They Need to Take to Get to Heaven (so to speak) or more accurately stated; what they must do to achieve Salvation. A Rich man or a Wealthy man and a Prison Guard:
Mark 10: The Rich and the Kingdom of God
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’[d]”
20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
Acts 16 – Paul and Silas in Prison
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. 28But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”
29The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
Scripture provides 2 types of Medicine for us; 1st – The Law and the other the 2nd – is The Gospel
1st the Law (or the Commandments) show us what we are supposed to do before Jesus Christ came, and during the New Testament time, the Commandments are to show us when we have sinned so that we have remorse. THIS SHOULD LEAD US TO REPENTANCE. This medicine of The Law (The Commandments) is for People who are hardened in their Sin, or who are Proud or Arrogant or Self Righteous. WHO NEED ESPECIALLY, TO BE BROKEN.
Once You are broken, then we are to turn to the Gospel for Peace, and this Grace is what God can do for us, and not something we do on our own effort. This Salvation, God’s kindness, his steadfast Love. “Grace Alone , through Faith Alone in Christ Alone.
Again, the Law is for a hard heart that needs to be broken. The Gospel is to heal you once you have that broken heart.
Other keywords for search are forthcoming here: how do we achieve salvation, broken hearted and salvation, how do we get to heaven, how can we receive salvation. How can a rich man get to heaven. This sermon tells us what scripture we need when we are hurting.
